To recap, I started as the Disability Equity Specialist on March 19, 2018. My primary responsibilities are working with The Portland Commission on Disability (PCOD,) and Title II of The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA).
PCOD is a group of volunteers whom advise City Council on issues relating to disability. Title II of the ADA covers access to local government for people with disabilities. So far, much of my work has been focussed on PCOD. This week, I’m going to start working on Title II.
Like every new situation, there have been challenges. A couple of times I left the workday very frustrated and upset. Still, I am very happy with where I am, what I have the chance to do, the difference I hope I make, and the peace and security having this job has brought to my life. Obviously, there will be many more challenges on the job. But my first few weeks have already shown me how those challenges will help me grow personally and professionally. I truly feel I’m exactly where I need to be at this point in my life.
