Today’s news updates are: gassing people at the border; the Trump administration tells the truth about climate change; and Nancy Pelosi’s progressive support.
Gassing People at the Border
Yesterday afternoon the government of the United States fired tear gas into Mexico. The assault was designed to keep migrants from rushing the US-Mexico border.
The shameful event began as a migrant protest against the slow pace of the asylum process. But when hundreds of migrants tried crossing the border, US Customs and Border Patrol opened fire with tear gas. Attempting to justify their actions, the Department of Homeland Security mentioned the few incidents of migrants throwing rocks and bottles.
The Trump Administration Tells the Truth about climate Change
Under a 1990 law, the administration is required to release a report on climate change every four years. The extensive report is so large and complicated that work began in 2014, during the Obama administration.
The National Climate Assessment, as the report is known, found widespread evidence of how climate change is negatively impacting America.
In order to take attention away from a report released by the administration that directly contradicts its policies, the government published the report the Friday after Thanksgiving at two PM.
Nancy Pelosi’s Progressive Support
Nancy Pelosi is all but certain to be the next speaker of the House. The support that all but guarantees her election has come from an unlikely source–the most progressive portion of the Democratic Party. This is because the only serious challenge brought against Pelosi came from moderates, leaving Pelosi as the most progressive option.
