Over the weekend I finally deleted my primary Twitter account. According to their policy, my account has been deactivated. It will not be fully deleted until 30 days after I deactivated it.
I, like many, have been thinking of deleting my Twitter account since Musc took the company over. While I detest his spoiled brat politics, his conservative ideology, and his stupidity, I deleted my Twitter account when I found out Musk got rid of Twitter’s accessibility team.
I should have done it sooner. But when a company makes it very clear that it doesn’t care about making its services accessible to me, I’m not going to support that company. At some point, principles have to matter. Sure, I sometimes miss the interesting things that I would occasionally see in my timeline. Yes, I sometimes enjoyed lively discussion on Twitter. But I can’t support a company so opposed to my civil rights.
Prior to deleting my account, I took a break from Twitter. I didn’t tweet anything or read anything on Twitter for about two weeks. Even though I used to engage Twitter several times each day, I quickly discovered I didn’t miss it. Sometimes I wonder if I’m missing things by not following Twitter anymore, but I’m much happier not supporting Twitter and having removed its drama from my life than I’m wondering if Im missing something.
I wish my posts could still be shared on Twitter, but the way the company is stupidly making it harder for people to share content to Twitter that was most likely not going to last anyway.
So, I’m done with Twitter. As long as Musc is in charge, I will never use Twitter again.
