In Fade Away, the third book in Harlan Coben’s Myron Bolitar series, Myron is unexpectedly pulled back into the world of professional basketball. After an injury cut short his NBA dreams, Myron became a sports agent and private investigator. Now, a former rival from his basketball days, Greg Downing, has gone missing. Greg, a star player for the New Jersey Dragons, disappeared without a trace, and the team owner wants Myron to find him.

Myron’s investigation takes him back onto the court when he’s asked to join the Dragons undercover, filling in for Greg while discreetly searching for him. The case gets personal for Myron, stirring up old memories and unresolved emotions about his own basketball career. Along the way, Myron uncovers a web of lies involving Greg’s personal life, secret affairs, and criminal activities.

With the help of his enigmatic and dangerous friend Win, and his quirky assistant Esperanza, Myron dives deep into the dark side of fame and professional sports. As the mystery unfolds, Myron realizes that finding Greg is tied to secrets that could destroy more than just careers—it could cost lives.

Fade Away blends elements of sports, crime, and personal redemption, showcasing Coben’s signature twists and fast-paced storytelling.

My Thoughts

Like the first two books in the Miron Bolitar series, I really enjoyed Fade Away. The more I read of Miron, the more I like him. Win and Esperanza are excellent supporting characters. Miron’s relationship with his girlfriend Jessica is sometimes frustrating, but it adds a more human element to Miron’s personality.

One of the things making this series such a fun read for me is the truth that I have a hard time figuring out who did it. Harlan Coben is great at making the ending a surprise.

If you enjoy mysteries and interesting characters, you will want to read Fade Away. If you are interested, you should read the first two books in the series before trying Fade Away.

I'd love to hear from you.
