Summary of Bellevue by Robin Cook
Dr. Michael “Mitt” Fuller, a 23-year-old surgical resident, begins his medical career at Bellevue Hospital, following in the footsteps of generations of Fuller doctors. However, Mitt soon realizes that something is not right. Patients under his care start dying mysteriously, and he experiences strange visions—particularly of a young girl in a bloodstained dress.
As Mitt investigates these disturbing occurrences, he is drawn to an abandoned psychiatric wing of Bellevue Hospital. There, he uncovers dark secrets from the past, including unethical medical experiments conducted by his ancestors. His family’s legacy at Bellevue is far more sinister than he ever imagined, and the supernatural forces tied to the hospital threaten not just his career but his very life.
This novel blends medical thriller elements with supernatural horror, raising questions about medical ethics, family legacies, and the boundaries of science.
My Thoughts
It has been a little while since I have read a Robin Cook book. So, I was glad to see Bellevue come available to me. I have read more than a dozen of Robin Cook’s books and Bellevue is one of his best.
I had absolutely no idea how it was going to end. When the story did end, I was shocked by what happened. Authors almost never end novels the way Robin Cook ended Bellevue.
I will say Bellevue has a lot of the supernatural in it. If that’s not your thing, you will not enjoy Bellevue. But if you’re like me and you can deal with supernatural sometimes, Bellevue will entertain and surprise.
