Michael Waldman’s The Fight to Vote is an incredibly timely, important look at the history of voting in America. Sadly, Waldman’s work highlights the systematic disenfranchisement of Americans (especially people of color and poor people).

Every American Should be Represented in Congress
The verdict for this episode is: if the citizens of Washington, DC and Puerto Rico were overwhelmingly white evangelical Christians, they would have Congressional representation. https://media.blubrry.com/jonathansimeonepodcast/content.blubrry.com/jonathansimeonepodcast/DC_and_Puerto_Rico.mp3Podcast: Play in new window | Download (Duration: 5:22 — 2.5MB) | Embedsubscribe to my podcast Apple Podcasts | TuneIn | RSS | Subscribe to Jonathan's Verdicts

How I’m voting on Oregon’s Ballot Questions
This post will tell you how I’m voting on each of the five statewide ballot questions in Oregon. In order to hopefully help you understand the often deliberately misleading ballot questions, I will also explain why I’m voting the way I’m voting. If my tendency to be nerdy is too much for you, I have… Continue reading How I’m voting on Oregon’s Ballot Questions
Talking About Impeaching Kavanaugh is Stupid
Even before Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed, many Democrats were talking about impeaching him. While I would have never voted to confirm Kavanaugh and while I do believe he could be impeached, talking about impeaching him is stupid. The reason is simple: Democrats are unlikely to have the votes and Republicans will use talk of impeachment… Continue reading Talking About Impeaching Kavanaugh is Stupid

The route of the problem isn’t political polarization (as many say). The route of the problem is the failing of our system of government. The reality is that an ever-shrinking… Continue reading America’s Political System is Failing
Debunking Arguments in Support of Kavanaugh
Now that Kavanaugh has been confirmed, this post doesn’t have much value. Still, I think it’s worth publishing the truth. Below are a few of the arguments advanced by Kavanaugh supporters and my rebuttals.
An Idea for Brett Kavanaugh
Obviously, what I’m about to propose would never happen. Still, it would be great for America if it did. Brett Kavanaugh should announce he supports an FBI investigation into Dr. Ford’s allegation. He should also tell the Senate’s Judiciary Committee to subpoena all relevant witnesses.
An Idea for Christine Blasey Ford
Let me be very clear: I fully recognize I can’t empathize with or understand how Christine Blasey Ford is feeling now. The below stems from the sympathy I have for her and her family. Obviously, she must do what she knows is best for her family. This is simply one man’s idea for how she… Continue reading An Idea for Christine Blasey Ford
